Help

The short versionYou pay once, any way you like. You get a key. Type it into the part and it is yours, on your phone, with every update. No account. Nothing renews.

How paying works

Every paid part has the same counter with eight ways to settle up. Each one ends with the same key.

  1. Card or phone wallet: Apple Pay, Google Pay or a card, on a checkout page Stripe runs.
  2. Cash at a counter: a printed key card, bought with cash where they are sold.
  3. Cash or check by mail: mail it in with an envelope addressed to yourself; the key comes back on a card.
  4. Digital dollars: USDC from your own crypto wallet, on Stripe's checkout.
  5. Name your price: pick what it is worth to you, from nothing on up.
  6. Take a spare key: other buyers hang spares on a board for anyone to take.
  7. Trade work for it: report a bug, mark up a printout, test a new version or write one sentence.
  8. Keys for a crowd: a church, shop, club or office buys key cards in bulk to hand out.

The store is not open yet. Until it is, every one of these can be walked end to end and none of them charges anything.

Keys

Where do I type it?

Open the part, tap the gear, tap Key, type it in. That is the whole sign-in: there is no account to make.

Who can use it?

One key is for one household. Put it on every phone in your house.

New phone?

Same key. Type it in on the new phone the same way.

Lost it?

If you paid by card or crypto, write to us with the receipt and we look it up. A key bought with cash or by mail lives only on its card, so keep the card with your papers.

What does the Shop Card key do?

It opens every paid part in the store, and every part added later.

Parts

Every part's box on the shelf says three things:

  • Runs on your phone: it works with no internet once it is open.
  • Talks to: what it needs online, if anything. Most say nothing.
  • Prints: it has a paper version.

Questions

Do I need an account?

No. The key is the account.

Does anything renew or bill me again?

No. Every price here is one time.

What if money is tight right now?

Name your price starts at nothing, and keys on the spare board are free to take. Both give you the same key as everybody else.

Is paying with crypto anonymous?

Private, not invisible. A wallet address shows up on a public ledger, and most coins were bought through an exchange that knows who you are. Cash at a counter or by mail tells us the least.

Can I buy one for somebody else?

Yes. Pick two keys at checkout and hand one off, or buy a printed key card and give the card.

What does the shop learn about me?

Depends on how you pay. Privacy lists it way by way. What you put into a part stays on your phone.

Can I get my money back?

Yes, within days, for any reason. See Refunds and delivery.

Something is broken.

Tell us on the contact page. A bug report also counts as a trade for a key.
